This internationally well known star claims that he is just another normal guy, who is working hard for a better life. Joshua was born to Fiona Jackson, a casting director, and John Carter. He lived in California, until the age of eight. But when his parents got divorced, he along with her mother and sister moved to Seattle, where he attended Einstein Middle School in Shoreline, Washington. But soon afterwards moved back to Vancouver, where he continued with his school. Joshua is a high school drop out. Probably, he did that in order to take up acting.

He started his acting career in 1990. His first famous role was in the series ‘The Mighty Ducks’, where he played the role of Charlie. Then in 1998, he got lucky as he was chosen for the role of Pacey Witter on ‘Dawson’s Creek’, which was aired from 1998-2003. Along with working on Dawson’s Creek he also appeared in a number of movies like ‘The Skulls’, ‘The Safety of Objects’, ‘The Laramie Project’ and also in the remake of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’. In the year 2000, he guest starred in the twelfth season of ‘The Simpsons’. After the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ ended Joshua was seen starring in lead roles in movies like ‘Americano’, ‘Shadows in the Sun’ and ‘Aurora Borealis’.

In the year 2005, the actor made his theatre debut with play ‘A Life in the Theatre’. Along with this, he was also working on movies like ‘Bobby’, ‘The Mighty Ducks’ and ‘Shutter’.

Most recently he was selected for the role of Peter Bishop in the series Fringe. In the series, he plays son of Walter who is shown a genius with an I.Q. of 190, and a high school drop-out who is under debts because of his gambling habit. In the series he is not very fond of his father as he was not there when he was needed. But his presence is necessary in order to understand the confusing, scientific speech his father uses in order to explain his discoveries. He was also responsible for keeping his father in a mental institution for 17 years.

As far as his personal life is concerned the man has been lucky with girls and has dated stars like Katie Holmes, Brittany Daniel, Julia Stiles and Rosario Dawson. Currently he is dating model and actress Diane Kruger. The actor is currently living in New York, shooting for the ‘Fringe’. But he also loves spending time in Vancouver, with his family as to him his friends and family is everything.
